- Proofreading
We go over your work with a fine-toothed
comb, magnifying glass,
and red pencil in hand. We check for spelling, grammar, punctuation,
and clarity. If images are included, we check for credit lines and
orientation. Our proofreading service is best for people who need a
final check of materials before they go to press, go live, or
go public.
Proofreading services are $35 per
hour or fraction thereof. We will also do a "live to dead copy edit"
from a previous draft to ensure final changes/edits were made.

- Substantive
Editing
In addition to proofreading your
document, substantive and
copy editing services consist of looking at your form and format as
well as your content. We make comments and give suggestions for making
improvements. We re-architect your work without
changing your meaning. We examine your sources and make sure that your
citations adhere to the
correct style for your writing/audience. If you need to adhere to a
specific writing style or editorial style sheet, we make sure that your
final marked-up copy does. Our substantive/copy editing service is best
for people with one draft or several renditions of drafts and need the
work tightened, polished, and put together. Substantive/Copy Editing
services are $35 per hour or fraction thereof like our basic
proofreading/light editing services, but may take longer, due to the
nature of the more detailed, substantive edit.

- Manuscript
Critiquing
You have a body of work that you feel is
close to being ready, but you want
an objective opinion about it and suggestions for tightening it. This
is where our manuscript critiquing service comes in. We give you a
detailed analysis of the work, tell you what works and what doesn't
including pointing out where there are gaps in logic or continuity
issues, and provide suggestions for changes. We offer a detailed
analysis of your work, examine it for clarity and content, and provide
you with a written, detailed explanation of our opinion of the work,
how well it reads and how clearly it is understood. We consider issues
beyond grammar and syntax such as tone, appropriateness, narration,
voice, strength (of storyline or thesis), format, and in the case of
scholarly works, whether the conclusion is a strong one, supported by
the evidence presented in the body of your work. This service is best
for people with a nearly final draft. Our Manuscript Critiquing service
starts at $3.00 per page. (See the
rates page for specific details and guidelines.)
